Moon Knight is Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series and is set to release on March 30, 2022. This series will revolve around a character Marc Spector who will become MCU’s new superhero, Moon Knight. With the release date coming near, we don’t know much about this character and this superhero. Now the question is, who is Marc Spector aka Moon Knight?
Who is Marc Spector (Moon Knight)
Marc Spector, also famous as the vigilante Moon Knight, was a warrior left for dead in the desert before being resurrected by the Moon deity Khonshu. Moon Knight, Khonshu’s fist and high priest gives vengeance to those who wander at night. He suffers from dissociative disorder and has several alter egos, including rich Steven Grant and taxi driver Jake Lockley.
He went to battle beside his deity to prevent this from happening. When Khonshu went insane, however, Marc had no choice but to turn against him and assist the Avengers in defeating him. Following Khonshu’s incarceration, Spector founded the Midnight Mission to support any night resident in need.
Who is Marc Spector?
Marc Spector was born in Chicago, Illinois. He’s the son of a Rabbi who had avoided Nazi persecution as a youngster when Hitler conquered Czechoslovakia. Marc was raised in an impoverished neighborhood of the city, where his father, Elias, was treated; he couldn’t explain why his father would never fight back. Randall, his younger brother, was his childhood companion. Every day, his father would accompany his children to school, but Randall was tormented since he was a Rabbi, but Marc was there to protect him. His father was dissatisfied with his sons’ aggressive disposition and fixation with war, believing they should focus on their schooling instead.
During the latter years of his boyhood, Marc found by luck that a close family friend, Rabbi Yitz Perlman, was a Nazi deserter and secretly a serial killer of Jews named Ernst. Marc’s fighting instinct was triggered for the first time as he fought off Perlman to get away from him. Perlman disappeared after that.
Marc had a personality disorder as a result of this terrible experience. Steven Grant and Jake Lockley were the first alter Marc created. He was accosted for the first time by the Egyptian deity Khonshu, pretending to be Marc’s actual progenitor, just before Elias chose to intern Marc at the Putnam Psychiatric Hospital.

Marc Spector’s Other Personalities
Marc Spector’s Paranoid Personality Disorder is popularly assumed to be the reason for Moon Knight’s numerous personas. Although subsequent comic issues revealed that this might not be true. Marc Spector realized that his other identities are the consequence of the Egyptian deity Khonshu inhabiting his mind when speaking with his therapist in Moon Knight Vol. Pathfinder, Embracer, Defender, and the Watcher of Overnight Travelers are considered four aspects of Khonshu.
As a strategy to manage the mental trauma inflicted by his magical relationship with the moon deity, these four characteristics manifested as separate personas in Spector’s psyche. While Spector had dissociative periods as a youngster due to various traumatic occurrences, Khonshu’s continual influence on his consciousness exacerbated the severity of his illness. Unfortunately, it’s unknown which of Spector’s personas represents which part of Khonshu; all we know is that the deity’s Watcher of Overnight Travelers appears as the hero Moon Knight.
